Cape Town’s railway network has received an upgrade with the introduction of a new automated control centre in Bellville.
On Friday, October 16, the Bellville Rail Management and Traffic Control Centre (RM&TCC) was launched and is now the new control centre at Prasa’s operations headquarters.
Some of its functions will be:
to see the automation of all passenger rail operations,
improve on-time performance of passenger trains, as well as their safety.
to co-ordinate and integrate the activities of Customer Services, Train Operations, Infrastructure, Rolling Stock, Protection Service, and Marketing & Communication departments.
The control centre costs R2 billion and brings a change from manual to automatic operations, especially when vandalism has an impact on Prasa’s ability to deliver services in the past.
